Jean-Pierre Brown is an artist living and working in Bangkok, Thailand.  In his multi-media artworks, the artist merges the bold aesthetic of pop art with a critical examination of consumerism and social exchange theory.

His passion lies in applying traditional art-making practices and reconfiguring them in new and unique ways to create contemporary imagery. Through painterly collages that blend layers of digital imagery with hand-drawn marks and brushstrokes, he explores the intersection of technological innovation and artistic expression. Embracing the emerging landscape of new technologies, he frees his art-making processes from traditional aesthetic expectations and physical material limitations.

At the core of his artistic inquiry is the theme of the rise and collapse of civilizations, and the compromises we make in pursuit of happiness or self-fulfillment. Through his layered imagery, he evokes nightmarish scenes of perpetual consumerism and the desperate search for material rewards.

Central to his work is the concept of social exchange theory, which posits that people make important decisions by weighing the costs and rewards of their actions or relationships. In his artworks, these costs and rewards extend beyond material considerations to encompass social approval, love, pride, respect, opportunity, and power. Through his art, he challenges viewers to reflect on the compromises we make in our relentless pursuit of more, and the toll it takes on our individual and collective well-being.

Ultimately, his art serves as a commentary on the human condition, urging us to question the values and priorities that govern our lives in an age of rampant consumerism. By confronting us with unsettling visions of excess and longing, he invites us to reconsider our relationship with material wealth and to explore alternative paths to fulfillment and happiness.f rampant consumerism.
